The Exorcism of Emily Rose

Today I was so brave! I faced the horrible Lit paper (which I don't want to talk about anymore), which distraught me so last night, up till the very moment that I looked at the questions. Then I knew I was dead. Anyhow. After the paper, I rushed off to JP to destress. I needed something to take my mine off the violently traumatizing (I has spasms looking at it) exam, so I watched this show:

What a fantastic show! I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I think it's one of best horror shows I have had the privilege of watching. Brilliant! A shocking thing happened after viewing this horror-drama masterpiece; I was actually thinking it was the best movie of the year. The weirdest thing is, I'm still thinking about it. The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a nearly perfect film - a film that I will remember for a very long time. It is a harrowing, shocking, terrifying, and terribly sad motion picture event that will make you question your own faith - and will definitely ask you to ask yourself some hard questions. The story follows the events after the death of Emily Rose, taking place during the trial with flashbacks of Emily during her stages of possible possession. I say "possible" because the film presents the story in two views at the same time. You can see everything from the faith point of view- or the science point of view. And you walk out of the film and you still don't know which side to take. And that's how you may be totally freaked out by this film, or if you're not scared to death, then you'll be enthralled by the exciting courtroom drama that makes up most of the film. The film is incredibly scary and sad at the same time. Emily's possession begins one night alone in her dorm room, and it is one of the scariest, most nerve-racking sequences I've ever seen. After that, there are more than several scenes (set in a hospital room, another dorm room sequence, a church, a classroom and a barn) that are absolutely horrifying - I'm amazed it's only rated PG! But amidst that, the courtroom drama is tense and sad, and you never know what the result will be. This is a film that defies conventions; a truly original work of solid filmmaking. I'm just so glad that I went to watch this show, despite my previous apprehensions about it. Now I feel so invigorated and inspired to study for my next Lit module on Friday, as well as my Language paper tomorrow! : ) And if you believed that cock-and-bull story I wrote above, you don't know me at all. Daphne is the most chicken-shit person when it comes to horror films. But make no mistake. I did go to the cinema:
I did go! I bought the tickets, got a drink for myself, then went into the theatre, my heart slamming against my ribcage in fearful trepidation. Usually, I hate am too chicken to watch horror films. This was a first for me! And to be brave enough to go and watch a horror show alone was a milestone in my life! And make no mistake. I didn't just go to watch the movie alone, I was in the theatre all alone! So the usual came on - the Richard Gere Visa commercial, the movie trailers, yadda yadda. I really wasn't paying attention by the time they got to this part: "And before we begin the movie, here's a reminder: (plays the Chicken Little switch-off-your-HP reminder)" I was already scared stiff. I ran out of the theatre with bag, drink, and jacket in tow, as fast as I could. I don't know what got into me - why did I think that I wanted to watch that movie? Well, now I'm stuck outside, too chicken to go back in, and I really didn't want to watch that movie afterall. I happened to know (cause I checked the movie listings earlier on), that another movie was starting at the same time, in the next theatre. But I couldn't remember what it was. So I ran into that theatre, not knowing what show was running. Well, as far as I knew, only one horror show was showing this week, so I can't go wrong, right? I sat in that theatre, a couple of rows behind two others who were in there, and calmed down a little. I was still berating myself for my silliness, and wondering what show would play in a few minutes time. I ticked off all the movies on my fingers. Exorcism of Emily Rose, Doom, Dragon Squad, Just Like Heaven, Legend of Zorro, Tom Yum Goong, Sky High... Hmm. And so I ended up watching:

Hahahaha! I am such a joke. : ) The movie wasn't fantastic - but I definitely enjoyed it more than I would have, had I stayed to watch The Exorcism of Emily Rose. And Catherine Zeta-Jones was gorgeous, as usual. Plus, her cute on-screen son, Joaquin (played by Adrian Alonso) was such a joy to watch! Look at these and tell me that if he's not cute:
So adorable, isn't he?! Hehe. I guess the movie trip today wasn't too bad. At least I had the "option" of running into another theatre instead of wasting my $7! Daphne, you chicken shit! Hahahahaha!
